AS THE D-DAY FINALLY APPROACHES.....
Well, the countdown has finally begun..just 4 more days are left..i can’t actually believe that I am leaving the place where I was born and brought up in ..that is delhi, my home, for a good 4 and a half yrs.
Going to a mysterious unknown place and living with a person I don’t even know properly till now-
..i can only hope and pray that everything turns out to be fine. Afterr all I have heard that hostel life is great fun …but whatever man ..it can be nothing compared to ur home..plus the humungous amt of studies involved.
Yesterday was another full day out..after all it’s the time to bid a goodbye to ur school friends . don’t know when I will be meeting them next..but hey, we do plan to keep in contact..afer all its not that easy to do away with the ppl u have shared the most eventful and memorable school life with.Yesterday was ujjwal, manish and jasman.sick of sakets and priyas..we decided to hit the gurgaon malls…DT and metropolitan.it started with manish having to wait for me for a good 20 mins in his car as I had to get my cell phone exchanged from a sony ericsson to nokia and it was the last day for getting it exchanged.well, with ujjwal and jasman calling and hurtling away all kinds of abuses towards us for being late(it wasn’t entirely my fault as manish had forgotten to inform them of the slight change in timings). So we finally picked up the archetypal abusers from saket and started for the gurgaon malls.
Since we hadn’t planned to do any shopping..we found out there wasn’t actually anything much to do. Cracking dumb pjs and basically pulling each others legs for absurd reasons(we do that quite a lot….) we bought tix for a eng movie called HERBIE.
Herbie was a cute film ..it was about this 1960’s volkswagon which has a spirit of a human in it..so basically herbie could frown, smile, sulk etc etc. it could even fall in love with fellow volkswagons and there was a very weird and funny way the audience used to realize herbies excitement on seeing its love..hint: herbie is a guy and it had the hots for the other car…so gues guess.i won’t go into the details of the story..it may sound dumb but herbie was adorable..i enjoyed it.
We then did some bowling at “amoeba” and played air hockey. No, we are not kiddish !!
This may sound wierd but I think the gurgaon beggars really need some manners!! After buying cokes and cold coffees from a nes-café, we had to cross the road to reach the parking which was on the other side of the road. Obviosly concentrating on crossing the road safely and sapping our thirsts with the chilled drinks along side..we failed to notice a huge gang of tiny little beggars(aged around 5-10 I guess) racing towards us with their hands outstretched to snatch away our heat saviours.it was only when I felt a tiny little hand pulling my jeans that I realised my cold coffee was in mortal danger!!and me too!! I almost got runover by a car!!so you can basically imagine the scene..4 guys running and then those kids tugging at any part of us they could reach…and cars racing by as if competing in an F1 race and ready to mow us down.I tried my best to save my drink but my life was more precious so I unwillingly handed over the remaining half of my cold coffee to one of the child beggars.manish’s and ujjwal’s drink escaped unscathed..perhaps they were way thirstier than me to not care abt being run over!!
Fine, they were dreadfully thirsty and all(who wouldn’t in the sweltering heat??!!) plus they didn’t have any money plus your heart does kind of melt on seeing such desperation. But practically thinking I truly feel THIS IS NOT RIGHT!! I mean, they can’t just start running after us on the road and literally snatching our glasses..yeah ,hey were actually trying to pull the cold coffee right away from my hands !!!I have never experienced such heights of arrogance and fearless attutide from people you would least expect them from.I have two pts. Firstly, “they” should set up more homes for child beggars. And yes, can we finally have a home for poor children in india where they are not used as bonded labour, where they are sexually assaulted and where they are not beaten left right and centre by sadists who heve a distorted opinion about life. I have only one word for such people-SICK!!!!!!!secondly, beggars should stop being so lazy and work to earn to feed themselves!!
The tone has got too serious and in touch with the realities of the “other” India which urban folk like us try to avoid and look over.so I will cont. with the other events of the day.
So we finally went to shiekh sarai and played some good 90 mins of pool. I got my school shirt(which I had carried along) scribbled upon by them. This and the discussions of most of us leaving our home city delhi, our future hostel life etc finally made me realise that my fun school days, delhi days were OVER….we had got so used to the daily school routine that we had never actually imagined that one day, it would end.The end of hanging out with age-old friends in saket, priya and the lot. The end of Monday tests. The end of bunking in the area around the sculpture room. The end of criticising every new rule made by our principal. The end of lazing around in home. And the end of the BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE….i will truly miss every memorable moment…sob sob L
This has turned out to be a VERY long post..but I have all the time in world these days. And if you have managed to tolerate reading it till this comma, it surely means that atleast some of it makes sense!!!!
